Braided Nutella & Crushed Pretzel Ring

If a sweet and salty pairing is wrong, we don’t want to be right! This delicious dessert recipe comes from Ooni’s Pizza Taste Tester, Marissa Buie, serving up a stuffing of rich Nutella and crushed salted pretzels – don’t forget the peanut butter whipped cream dreaminess that it’s served with.

Ingredients

Serves 4 as dessert

For the braided ring:

1 x 9.5oz (270g) Classic Pizza Dough ball¼ cup (60ml) Nutella, at room temperature½ cup (100g) coarsely crushed pretzels2 tablespoons finely crushed pretzels1 egg, lightly beaten

For the peanut butter whipped cream:

½ cup (100ml) smooth peanut butter½ cup  (100ml) heavy (double) cream

Method

Prepare your pizza dough ahead of time. Our guide to making the perfect Classic Pizza Dough covers everything you need to know.Fire up your Ooni pizza oven. Aim for 400°F (200˚C) on the stone baking board inside. Place your cast iron Skillet in the oven to warm. You can check the temperature inside your Ooni pizza oven quickly and easily using the Ooni Infrared Thermometer.

Lightly flour your work surface. Using a rolling pin, flatten the ball of pizza dough into a long rectangular shape, about 24 inches (60cm) by 5 inches (13cm).Spread the Nutella evenly over the dough, leaving an inch-wide border around the edge, then sprinkle over the crushed pretzels.Take the long edge of the pizza dough sheet and roll the dough in on itself, forming one long tube. Once rolled, placed seam side down. Lightly brush the top with egg wash. Sprinkle with finely crushed pretzel.Next, using a sharp knife, slice down the entire length of the tube. With the cut sides facing up, carefully twist the two pieces over each other. Take both ends of the braided tube and bring them together to form a circle, pinching together the two ends.Remove the warmed skillet from your oven. Carefully place the ring inside the skillet. Return the skillet to your Ooni pizza oven. Place it as close as possible to the opening and bake the ring for about 15-20 minutes, or until the top is golden brown. Rotate the pan slightly every 5 minutes to ensure the ring cooks evenly and doesn’t burn.In a bowl, combine the peanut butter and cream to make the dipping sauce.Serve the warm ring with the bowl of peanut butter cream in the middle of the ring - tear off pieces of the ring and dip away!
