Impact

At Ooni, we believe business should be a force for good. That’s why we’ve set out to become a regenerative business—one goes beyond just 'being less bad', to be a positive force in the world. Our passion has always been bringing people together through the joy of pizza, and now, we’re working to do that in a way that contributes positively to the planet and its people. After all, we only have one planet to make pizza on, and we believe we have a responsibility to protect and restore it.

Our third annual Impact Report details our progress in 2023 and introduces our new Regenerative Business Strategy, which will guide how we measure and manage our impact going forward.

Regenerative Business Strategy

Our ambition is bold: to be a regenerative business by 2050. We want to go beyond causing zero harm to people and the planet – we want to have a net positive effect, with restorative and regenerative impacts.

This is a world away from the conventional approach of doing a little less harm each year, without the context of longer term, planet-aligned objectives and involves a real step change – transforming our impact rather than making incremental improvements.

It means transforming and measuring our success in terms of our impact on people and the planet. It means we’re on a path to actively stop – and, in time, reverse – any social and environmental harm associated with our business and supply chains. And it means increasingly ensuring that we and others adopt regenerative practices.

We based our approach on the knowledge that sound business, a healthy society and a thriving planet are interdependent, and that the legacy of colonisation continues to drive current social, economic and environmental injustices. In doing so, our strategy is aligned to the principles of Planetary Boundaries and Doughnut Economics.

To achieve this, we’ve restructured our approach to impact - as well as our strategy itself - into nine key impact areas:

  1. Climate – Reducing emissions and going beyond net zero.
  2. Water – Protecting and replenishing water sources.
  3. Local Environment – Enhancing biodiversity and natural ecosystems.
  4. Products – Creating fully circular, sustainable designs.
  5. Waste & Pollution – Eliminating waste from our sites and operations.
  6. People – Creating inclusive workplaces where all employees thrive.
  7. Supply Chains – Building transparent, ethical, and fair supply networks.
  8. Brand Voice – Using our platform to inspire positive change.
  9. Finance – Aligning investments and taxes with our regenerative goals.

We’re embedding this strategy across everything we do—how we make our products, work with partners, and engage our teams and community. Our status as a certified B Corp will also help us to keep us on track, supporting appropriate internal controls and governance in place.

Climate Action

The climate crisis is urgent, and businesses like ours have a responsibility to act fast.

In 2023, we measured our full greenhouse gas (GHG) footprint with more precision than ever before. Our emissions baseline helps us set clear science-based reduction targets.

We also began to conduct life cycle analyses (LCAs) of key products to understand their whole-life GHG emissions and wider environmental impacts.

We’ve also committed to removing 818 tonnes of CO2e through a portfolio of projects, including biochar, direct air capture, afforestation, and enhanced rock weathering—all designed to store carbon for 500+ years.

Now we are working to finalise and start implementing our net zero plans and submit Science-Based Targets to reduce our scope 1, 2 and 3 GHG emissions for validation by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

Ooni Impact Fund

Through our 1% for the Planet partnership, we allocate 1% of our Fyra oven turnover to environmental and social causes.

In this fifth year of our partnership with Eden, our sponsorship supported the restoration of critical mangrove coastal ecosystems in Eastern Kenya that have been depleted by historic commercial overexploitation. With our support, Eden has planted 596,623 trees at this site. It has also employed an average of 18 people per month, strengthening local livelihoods, health and resilience. During the first three years of our partnership, we sponsored the planting of 3.3 million mangrove trees in Madagascar, which continue to protect areas from storm surges and support many people’s livelihoods.

With a vision of ‘No waste, no hunger’, Second Harvest distributes surplus edible food from businesses to food-insecure Canadians. By offering a combination of cash and in-kind donations worth CA$8,649, we helped Second Harvest continue to raise funds via their seasonal raffle event, and provide 260,330 nutritious meals – and the fight against climate change.

Outright International advocates for global lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, intersex or queer (LGBTIQ) inclusion and equality, through research and collective activism. Our £10,000 donation enabled the organisation’s global research, critical advocacy to overcome discriminatory laws and practices around the world, and grant-making work.

Social Responsibility & Sustainable Sourcing

Strengthening transparency and accountability right along our supply chains was a big focus area for us in 2023 and we’re committed to upholding the human rights of everyone involved in our business.

Diversity, Equity & Inclusion: We protect everyone’s right to respectful, equitable treatment and equal opportunity, irrespective of their age, gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, country of origin, disability, socio-economic background, or any other characteristic, even in places where the law doesn’t protect those characteristics. We conducted our first DEI survey in 2023 to improve representation and belonging.

Sustainable  Sourcing: We laid the foundations for mapping our entire supply chain, developed a Human Rights Policy and joined Sedex to support human rights due diligence.

Volunteering: Ooni employees tripled their volunteer days in 2023, contributing to causes like food security and refugee support.

We are committed to continue to build internal systems to enhance our supply chain visibility, further develop our human rights due diligence framework and ensure that our strategy covers goals that ensure access to life’s essentials for our people.

At Ooni we are committed to ensuring the human rights of people working within our operations and supply chains around the world are respected and protected. We do not tolerate any form of modern slavery anywhere within our business or supply chains.

Our Modern Slavery Statements show our commitments and the steps we’ve taken annually towards identifying and preventing modern slavery and human trafficking within our business and supply chains
